If you don’t see song information

When you insert a CD into your computer, iTunes finds the CD in the Gracenote media database on the Internet and displays the name and other track information for each song. If songs appear as “Track 01,” “Track 02,” and so on, either you aren’t connected to the Internet or iTunes can’t find the CD’s information.

If you’re not connected to the Internet, you can import the songs anyway, and look up the CD information the next time you’re connected.

Look up CD information in the Gracenote media database

  1. Make sure you're connected to the Internet.

  2. In iTunes, select a song or songs (hold down the Shift key to select multiple adjacent songs, or the Command key to select multiple nonadjacent songs).

  3. Click Gear icon with an arrow pointing down near the top-right of the iTunes window, and choose Get Track Names.

    The CD options menu

  4. Select the entry for the CD.

If there's more than one entry, select one; if it doesn't include the correct information, choose Get CD Track Names again, and choose another entry. If it's still not correct, you can edit the information yourself.

If more than one entry is found for the CD (which can occur if more than one person submitted information for the same CD to the Gracenote service), select one of the entries. If it isn’t correct, choose Get CD Track Names from the Options pop-up menu again and choose the other entry. If it’s still not correct, you can edit the information yourself.

If iTunes can’t connect to the Gracenote service or the Gracenote service has no information about the CD, you can enter your own song information in iTunes. You can also submit the information to Gracenote so other people can use the information.

Send CD information to Gracenote

If the Gracenote media database has no information for a CD, you can enter the song information in iTunes and then send the information to Gracenote so that others can use it.

  1. Make sure you're connected to the Internet.

  2. Choose the CD from the Library pop-up menu.

  3. Enter the song information.

  4. Click Gear icon with an arrow pointing down and choose Submit CD Track Names.

    The CD options menu

  5. Enter the artist and album information and click OK.

Don’t submit information for custom CDs that you created because others won’t be able to use it.
