Manage your iTunes Store account

To buy items in the iTunes Store, you need one of the following:

  • An Apple ID. If you’ve purchased items from the Apple Online Store, bought an iPhoto book, or have an iCloud account, then you have an Apple ID. If you don’t have one, you can set one up using iTunes.

  • An AOL account.

With either type of account, you can specify how you want to pay for iTunes Store purchases.

Note:  AOL accounts can’t be used in some countries. Check with your country’s iTunes Store for more information.

Set up a new Apple ID

  • Choose Store > Create Apple ID, and follow the onscreen instructions.

If you have a PayPal account, you can use that as your payment method when you enter your credit card information.

Note:  PayPal isn’t accepted for payment in some countries.

Sign in to or out of the iTunes Store

After you set up an Apple ID account (or if you’re using an existing AOL account instead), you can sign in to the iTunes Store to buy music and video, view or change your account information, and see your purchase history.

When you finish using the store, you can sign out to prevent anyone else who has access to your computer from making purchases using your account.

  • Choose Store > Sign In (or Sign Out).

You can also sign in to your account by clicking Sign In at the top of the iTunes Store window:

Sign-in button in the iTunes Store navigation bar

Change your account information

You can change your Apple ID name, password, or billing information at any time.

  1. Choose Store > View My Apple ID, and sign in.

  2. Click Edit.

  3. Make your changes, and click Done.

Your changes take effect immediately.

If you also use your Apple ID in other apps, you don’t need to update your information in those apps. The changes you make in iTunes apply to all apps in which you use your Apple ID.

If you have an AOL account, changes you make in iTunes don’t affect your AOL account on the AOL service. For example, if you change your password in iTunes, the password you use to log in to the AOL service doesn’t change.

View your purchase history

You can see a list of all your iTunes Store purchases.

  1. Choose Store > View My Apple ID, and sign in.

  2. In the Account Information window, click See All (below Purchase History).

The purchase history shows purchases made using this account, with your most recent purchases shown first. To view details of previous purchases, click the arrow to the left of the order date. If your purchase history seems incomplete, make sure you’ve clicked the arrow next to each previous purchase to see all your purchase history information.

If your purchase history seems to be incorrect, or you believe you’ve been charged for an item you didn’t buy, visit the iTunes Store Support website.
