Prepare movies to work with Apple TV

If you have an Apple TV, you can use it to watch movies from your computer on your TV. You might need to convert some movies to work with Apple TV. Any video that plays on iPod, iPhone, or iPad is compatible with Apple TV.

If you edit movies in iMovie, you can save the movies directly to your iTunes library.

Convert a movie to work with Apple TV

  1. In iTunes, select the movie.

  2. Choose File > Create New Version > Create iPad or Apple TV Version.

Save a movie in iMovie to work with Apple TV

  1. In iMovie, choose Share > iTunes.

  2. Select one or more sizes.

  3. Click Publish.

Converting a movie for Apple TV can take several minutes to several hours, depending on your computer and on the length and content of the movie.

The original movie file remains in your iTunes library.
